The Rosina Trophy
The Rosina Trophy is named after my mother
Mrs Hilda Rosina Roberts, she was born 31/01/1916 and died 17/10/1983. The last 9 years of her life were spent battling against Breast Cancer. She was a very popular person at the club and always wanted to play bowls for a ladies team, as both her husband (my father) J F Roberts, and myself
J H Roberts (former Club Captain 1982/1983) who both played bowls for the Raven for many years.
Unfortunately she passed away in the autumn before the ladies section was created. She suffered Breast Cancer and fought hard against the disease for nine years with great tenacity and courage, a characteristic she would have put into playing bowls if she had survived.
In 1984, I made the original Rosina trophy, so that the ladies section would have a trophy to play for each season. I am glad to see even though I left the club in 1985, the Trophy which bears my mothers name is still being played for so many years later.
