British Crown Green Junior Merit
11/05/2011
On a warm and sunny morning six junior ladies turned up at Ye Olde Knowle to compete for the British Crown Green Junior Merit title.  With the winner representing Warwickshire in the finals on 5thSeptember at Owley Wood Recreational club in Northwich.
The competition was a round robin with each game being the first to 11.  This enabled all girls the chance of playing by 5 games.  The winner would be decided on the number of wins followed by the shots scored in case of a tie. This year’s competition saw three existing junior ladies: Shannon Goodman (Stoke Prior), Ann-Marie Westwood (Ward End Social/Raven) and Abby Easthope (Banbury) enter the competition.   In addition we also had three new comers enter the merit for their first time: Amelia Marshall (Hall Green), Courtney Tongue (Baldwin) and Emily Jade Kernick (Baldwin) as well. After all the girls had played four games each with just one game remaining it was a very close competition.  Shannon, Emily and Ann Marie had only lost one game each, with Abby having lost just two.  Courtney had won one of her games and although Amelia had not won a game it was her first time playing a competitive game.   In the last games, Shannon and Emily both won their games to 3 and 2 respectively, which then meant that if Ann Marie won her last game it would be a three way tie on points, and it would come down to the most shots being scored.  It was quickly worked out that if Ann Marie won her game against Abby that she would win the title.  This was a very close game with Abby just clinching it 11-10. Therefore Shannon and Emily tied for 1st place with both winning four of their five games; however Shannon Goodman clinched the title having scored more shots in the games that they both lost. Big congratulations to Shannon who played superbly all day.  Shannon will now represent Warwickshire in the National Finals, where I’m sure she will do us proud. Also well done to all the girls who took part, it looks like we have lots of talent in the making. A Michelle Meadowcroft Report.
